Dancehall artiste, Munga Honourable was yesterday slapped with several charges after an incident in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew.Reportsare that the police were on duty in the area when the deejay, whosereal name is Damion Rhoden, was stopped and searched. The deejay, it isalleged, refused to cooperate with the police and is also accused ofusing indecent language. Mike Tyson Arrested For Assaulting Photographer At LAX Airport
Mike Tyson and a photographer made citizen's arrests of one anotherafter getting into a scuffle Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport, police say. At 4:30 p.m., the former boxing champ, 43, was passing through LAX from Europe en route to Las Vegas when a celebrity photographer began taking his picture at the United Airlines terminal, Sgt. Study Shows Vybz kartel Having a Negative Impact on Males Between 10-18 yrs
The sexually explicit and violent lyrics for which deejay Vybz Kartel - one half of the Gully-Gaza feud - is known affect how Jamaican teenagers think and view themselves, according to a recent study. Numerous young people between the age of 10 and 18 have spoken of the negative influence of Kartel's lyrics and music videos on them, communication specialist and former permanent secretary in the ministry of energy and mining, Marcia Forbes said her research had found. Forbes, who put the issue in the context of the vicious Gully-Gaza feud between Kartel and his arch-rival Mavado, said the research showed that the deejay had power over what teenagers thought about and how they viewed themselves based on his lyrics. Jah Cure camp denies Trinidad arrest rumours.
Publicists for local reggae sensation Siccature "Jah Cure" Alcock, are denying Internet reports that the world-famous reggae artiste was arrested in Trinidad on Saturday night, after being slated for a show in that island. Since Saturday night, several websites, particularly those in Trinidad, have been reporting that the singer was arrested at the Hyatt Hotel for allegedly not repaying a Trinidadian show promoter, Handel Anthony, close to US$20,000. Robert Nesta Morgan, Jah Cure's publicist, however, is denying that the artiste was arrested. Rumours have been circulating on the streets for a while that the singer is unhappy in the Vybz Kartel-led Portmore Empire, but got more intense when it was circulated on the Internet that the singer had been beaten. Marley family wage global war on trademark pirates
KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) - Heirs of the Jamaican reggae legend are plunging into the global trademark wars, seeking to enforce their exclusive rights to an image that has grown steadily in scope and appeal since the Jamaican superstar died of brain cancer in 1981 at age 36. The Marley name, look and sound are estimated to generate an estimated $600 million a year in sales of unlicensed wares. Legal sales are much smaller - just $4 million for his descendants in 2007, according to Forbes magazine. The Marleys refuse to give a figure. Shyne was released from the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) on Wednesday (October 28) and has "temporarily accepted deportation" to the country of Belize, according to his attorney Oscar Michelen. The former Bad Boy rapper had been detained by immigration officials for nearly four weeks after serving close to nine years in prison for his involvement in 1999's infamous Club New York shooting. Bolt gets Order of Jamaica
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, has received one of Jamaica's highest honours. Bolt received the Order of Jamaica during Monday's heritage celebrations in the capital, Kingston. At 23, Bolt is the youngest person to receive the honour. The deejay, whose real name is Christopher Palmer, was arrested after a woman reported to the police that he sexually molested her. He is now out on bail. Mighty Diamonds to be honored in Brooklyn
Since its founding in 1969, the Mighty Diamonds' harmonies and devotion to the roots-reggae tradition have become legendary. The veteran trio will perform in concert in Brooklyn on Nov. 1 and be honored for its longtime contribution to music.
