Buju Banton donating US$1,000 to Haiti.
Incarcerated deejay Buju Banton reached out to the Haiti cause yesterday by donating US$1,000 ($89,000)as well as clothes and shoes to Haitian artiste Wyclef Jean's Yele Organization. Although experiencing problems of his own as he is currently in jail in the United States facing drug charges, the deejay opened up his own closet, clothes and shoes to assist persons devastated by the earthquake. Yabby You passed away
Here is a sad news. The great roots singer and producer Vivian Jackson aka Yabby You aka Jesus Dread passed away on the 12th January in Clarendon, Jamaica. Born in Kingston in 1946, he was the author of many classics such as Conquering Lion, Rally Round Jahovah, Jah Vengeance, Deliver Me From My Enemies, Love Thy Neighbour, Deliverance, Ballistic Dread Locks, Dread Locks Man, Black Starliner, Natty Bongo. He also produced artist such as Michael Prophet, Michael Rose, Jah Stitch, Trinity, Tony Tuff and Wayne Wade. Reggae music loses one of its legend. RIP.
Teddy Pendergrass dies aged 59.
Teddy Pendergrass has died at the age of 59 following "a difficult recovery" from colon cancer surgery. Teddy Pendergrass II said his father had died at a hospital in Philadelphia. He was paralysed from the waist down in a 1982 car accident. In 2001, he went on his first tour since the accident. Pendergrass enjoyed early success with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, whose hits included If You Don't Know Me By Now, before going solo in 1976. He was the first black male singer to record five consecutive multi-platinum albums in the US. Jamaica police arrest 3 for smuggling high-powered weapons and ammunition from NY

Hundreds Of Thousands Feared Dead After Haitian Earthquake.
Haitians are lining bodies along the streets of Port-au-Prince, where thousands are feared dead after a massive earthquake destroyed much of the capital. The 7.0 magnitude quake that struck Tuesday was the most powerful to hit the Caribbean nation in 200 years. WELLINGTON, New Zealand, January 11, 2010 - A Jamaican man who created a bomb scare in New Zealand's capital last month is now being accused of attempted robbery and threatening to kill a bank employee and her family. Paul Martin Williams was previously accused of threatening to do an act likely to cause major property damage, "namely to blow up the bank" on December 9th. Powerful Earthquake Rocks Haiti.
A powerful earthquake of 7.0 magnitude rocked Haiti just before 5 p.m. Eastern time, 10 miles southwest from the highly populated capital of Port-au-Prince. There were two aftershocks — of 5.5 and 5.9 magnitude — that followed in the last hour, and more are expected to happen. The city has about 2 million people, according to National Geographic. 1,680 killed in Jamaica in 2009.
ReggaeMe (AP) - A record number of people were killed in Jamaica last year, solidifying the island's reputation as having one of the world's highest murder rates. Buju Banton will be held without bail on drug charges while his lawyer fights to remove a detainer placed on his client by immigration officials. Buju Banton who is 36 years old, pleaded not guilty this afternoon to federal charges that he conspired to buy cocaine from an undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota last month. U.S. Magistrate Anthony Porcelli ordered the singer held without bail after defense attorney David Oscar Markus said he would not oppose the government's request that Banton be detained. Dutch Seize 2,400 Pounds Of Cocaine On Jamaican Ship.
ReggaeMe - Amsterdam - Dutch authorities have seized 24-hundred pounds of cocaine from a Jamaican cargo ship. They say the drug, which has a street value of more than 43-million dollars, was hidden among containers of whiskey on the ship. A special law enforcement team found the container last week in the port of Rotterdam and arrested five men in Amsterdam where it was delivered. The cocaine has been destroyed. Jamaica is on a U.S. list of 20 countries identified as major production or distribution centers for illegal drugs. The Justice Department says Jamaica is a "significant trans-shipment point" for cocaine headed to both the U.S. and Europe.

Jamaican-Born Radical Cleric Stuck In Kenya after Deportation Papers Issued.
