Jamaica Seeks $1 Billion to Rid Island of Guns and Crime
Minister Audley Shaw said. Funeral service for O'Neil Edwards Saturday
Voicemail member, O'Neil Edwards, will be laid to rest on Saturday.The funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 am at the Church on the Rock, Clifton Avenue, Kingston 8 and the body will be layed to rest at Meadowrest. O'Neil, a much-loved figure in entertainment circles, died last week Wednesday at the Kingston Public Hospital, after being admitted there following a shooting incident in which he was attacked at his gate on the morning of May 10.
Usain  Bolt Has A Achilles tendon Injury.
Usain Bolt has withdrawn from the June 12 Diamond League meeting in New York City because of an Achilles tendon issue, organizers said Monday. Organizers of the meeting said they were notified by Bolt's management team that the world and Olympic triple gold medallist has inflammation in the affected tendon and has been advised to rest. The meeting, the fifth in the 14-event elite Diamond League series, is held at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island, where Bolt first broke the 100m record in May of 2008.
Temptations singer Ali-Ollie Woodson dies at 58
Ali Ollie Woodson, who led the Motown quintet the Temptations in the 1980s and ’90s and helped restore it to hit-making glory with songs like “Treat Her Like a Lady,” died on Sunday in Los Angeles. He was 58. Mr. Woodson was not an original member of the group, which had several lineup changes since it started in the 1960s. Woodson died Sunday in Los Angeles California after battling cancer.
Israeli commandos intercepted and attacked Gaza bound aid ships
Turkey withdrew its ambassador to Israel and canceled three joint military drills on Monday after Israeli commandos killed at least 10 people and wounded dozens aboard a Palestinian aid convoy unofficially sponsored by Turkey. The convoy of six ships was led by a Turkish vessel with 600 people on board and set sail for Gaza from international waters off Cyprus on Sunday in defiance of an Israeli-led blockade of the territory. Commandos boarded the ships in international waters overnight, backed up by warships and helicopters.

Gary Coleman died at age 42
Actor Gary Coleman died Friday morning at the age of 42. The "Diff'rent Strokes" star had suffered a brain hemorrhage and died in a Utah hospital. Coleman was pronounced dead after he suffered from a brain hemorrhage. He suffered an injury in his home in Utah on Wednesday, and his condition significantly worsened and he was placed on life support. When he was admitted, Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

Former child television star Gary Coleman is in critical condition near his Utah home with what his family calls a "serious medical problem." Utah Valley Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Janet Frank said Coleman, 42, was admitted to the Provo facility on Wednesday but she couldn't release any other details. Coleman lives in Santaquin, which is 55 miles south of Salt Lake City.In February, Coleman suffered a seizure on the set of "The Insider." Coleman has had a string of financial and legal problems, in addition to continuing ill health from the kidney disease he suffered as a child. Coleman has had at least two kidney transplants and has ongoing dialysis. Last fall, Coleman had heart surgery that was complicated by pneumonia.

At least 27 people are dead in Kingston amid an all-out police assault on a Christopher "Dudus" Coke stronghold Tivoli Gardens, a all out push that began Monday by the police and JDF. Security forces have been fighting people who want to prevent the extradition to the United States of Christopher "Dudus" Coke, who was charged last year in U.S. federal court with conspiracy to distribute marijuana and cocaine and with conspiracy to illegally traffic in firearms. Jamaica Is Under A State of Emergency
Jamaica's government declared a state of emergency in parts of Kingston sunday night after the shooting and firebomb attacks on police stations by suspected supporters Christopher "Dudus" Coke . The emergency covered the West Kingston and St Andrews districts of the capital, where gunmen had fired on two police stations and set fire to a third; at least one policeman was injured. The attackers were thought to be supporters of Christopher "Dudus" Coke whom the government is seeking under a US extradition request; it has called on him to surrender to the authorities.

SHANGHAI, China (AP) Jamaica's Usain Bolt has won the 200 meters at the Diamond League meet in Shanghai with a time of 19.76 seconds. The reigning world and Olympic champion over 100 and 200 meters was never tested Sunday, looking relaxed as he finished ahead of Americans Angelo Taylor, second in 20.34, and Ryan Bailey, third in 20.43. The win continues Bolt's strong start to this season that began with a year's best 9.86 seconds in capturing the 100 at Daegu in South Korea on Wednesday. Earlier in the Shanghai meet, Carmelita Jeter of the United States claimed victory in the women's 100 meters with a time of 11.09.
Rita Marley's studio caught on fire in Ghana
The ultra-modern music recording studio in Aburi in the Eastern Region of ghana belonging to Rita Marley, wife of the late reggae music icon Bob Marley, has been gutted by fire. The cause of the fire is unknown but sources close to Mrs Marley say it may have been caused by an electrical fault. The multi-million-dollar studio - also the store house of most of Bob Marleys original tapes - was due for commissioning late last year but the event had to be postponed to allow Mrs Marley to attend to some personal issues in the USA. U.S. U.K And Canada Issues Travel Warning For Jamaica
The U.S. State Department warned Friday of the threat of civil unrest in Jamaica amid reports that criminal gangs were massing in Kingston and the military was mobilizing. "The possibility exists for violence and/or civil unrest in the greater Kingston metropolitan area,"."There are unconfirmed reports of criminal gang members amassing in the Kingston area, as well as mobilization of Jamaican defence forces" the State Department said.
