Mighty Diamonds singer Donald "Tabby" Shaw killed in Jamaica
On March 29, at about 9:45 p.m. in Kingston, Jamaica, the lead singer of the reggae music trio Mighty Diamonds, Donald “Tabby Diamond” Shaw, 67, was shot dead near his home on McKinsey Crescent, Olympic Gardens. Also shot dead was another man, Owen Beckford, and three others were shot and injured in the attack, which took place at a popular community social spot. Formed in 1969 in the Trenchtown area of Kingston, the group consisted of Shaw, and harmony vocalists Fitzroy "Bunny" Simpson and Lloyd "Judge" Ferguson. They had become friends at school in the mid-1960s, and were originally called The Limelight, adopting 'Mighty Diamonds' after Shaw's mother started referring to them as "the diamonds."
Jah Cure gets sentenced to six years in prison
Jah Cure has been sentenced to six years in prison for attempted manslaughter. Siccature "Jah Cure" Alcock was sentenced in a Dutch court today after the Court of Amsterdam rejected his claim of self-defence. Jah Cure was detained in The Netherlands for his involvement in a stabbing incident, where promoter Nicardo ‘Papa’ Blake was injured in October 2021 in Amsterdam. The prosecutor stated that Jah Cure’s actions prior to the stabbing showed it was premeditated, and he intended to cause wounding and harm to Blake. although the claim of self-defence was rejected, the court found Jah Cure, 43, not guilty of attempted murder. Counterfeit Liquor Bust In Jamaica
A joint police/military team arrested eight men during a targeted operation on Old Harbour Road in St. Catherine on Monday, February 7. Reports are that between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., a team of police and military personnel entered a premises where they uncovered an illegal bottling operation with counterfeit liquor. The team discovered hundreds of bottles, labels of popular local liquor brands, a bottling machine and several cases of raw material. Eight men who were found at the premises were taken into custody. The team also seized approximately JMD $280,000 in cash. As the investigations continue, citizens are being warned to take precautions and examine the labels of packages when making purchases.
Robbie Shakespeare From Sly and Robbie’s has died
Robert Warren Dale Shakespeare was a Jamaican bass guitarist and record producer, best known as the one half of the reggae riddim section and production duo Sly and Robbie, with drummer Sly Dunbar has died. Robbie recently undergone kidney surgery at a hospital in Florida. He died at the age of 68. Sly and Robbie has two Grammy wins and 11 nominations among other music achievements.

The film, which has not been named, is set in Jamaica and highlights several of the country’s social and political issues. Usain Bolt Hits Top Reggae Music Chart With Debut Album
Country Yutes debuted in Billboard's top ten reggae album charts with co-signs from Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and Audiomack. The album has since soared to the top of the Amazon Music charts since its September 3 release. Usain Bolt stated his true ambition is to become the Dancehall equivalent of Dj Khaled. Bolt co-produced three dancehall mixtapes in 2019: Olympe Rose Riddim, Immortal Riddim, and Clockwork Riddim.
Legendary Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry is dead
Renowned music pioneer, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry has died. He died on Sunday morning 08/29/21 at the Noel Holmes Hospital in western Jamaica. He had been battling illness. Perry was 85 years old. Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music with his early adoption of remixing and studio effects to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing reggae tracks. He has worked with and produced for a wide variety of artistes, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, the Congos, Max Romeo, the Beastie Boys and the Orb. He has produced more than 1 thousand recordings during his over 60-year career, including some of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ most famous early recordings.
Magnitude 7.2 Earthquake Hits Haiti
A massive 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Saturday morning, killing hundreds of people and shaking buildings from the neighboring Dominican Republic to Jamaica and Cuba. Saturday's quake was stronger, though centered farther from the capital, than the devastating 2010 temblor that killed more than 220,000, prompting foreign governments and aid agencies to prepare for large numbers of dead, wounded and homeless. Jamaica Seeking $10.6 Billion in Slave Trade Reparations
Jamaica has put a price tag on slavery and has sent the British government the bill. State officials of the Caribbean nation said they’re asking Great Britain to pay $10.6 billion (USD) in reparations. The former British colony served as the center of the slave trade with Africans kidnapped, enslaved and forced to work on plantations which produced sugar cane, bananas and other products. That free and inhumane labor greatly enriched the slave owners. According to the National Library of Jamaica, about 600,000 Africans landed in Jamaica during the slave trade. Jamaica sweeps women's 100m at Tokyo Olympics
Elaine Thompson-Herah defended her 2016 gold medal with an Olympic record and personal best of 10.61 seconds, and assumed the title of world's fastest woman alive. Jada Kingdom Signs New Record Deal
On Wednesday, Jada Kingdom’s boyfriend Verse Simmonds shared the news on his Instagram, which showed Jada Kingdom inking the deal to rounds of applause and surrounded by friends and label executives at Republic Records. Simmonds, 40, has been dating the 22-year-old Kingdom for the past two years. Simmonds himself is a producer and rapper with Puerto Rican heritage.
