Shenseea gets first MTV Video Music Award nomination
MTV made the announcement on Tuesday as the VMA’s unveiled their full list of nominees. Shenseea, the only Jamaican on the list, is nominated in the category ‘Push Performance of the Year’. The nomination makes Shenseea the first Jamaican artiste to be selected for the internationally acclaimed award. Popcaan Make US Afrobeats Chart
Popcaan is the first Jamaican artist to feature on the US Afrobeats Songs chart. Popcaan is moving into new market territory with his featured performance on the track “Toni-Ann Singh” by the Afrobeats artist Burna Boy. The song took its inspiration from the former Miss Jamaica and Miss World title holder Toni-Ann Singh. It is included on the fourth major label release by Burna Boy, “Love, Damini.” The latest Afrobeats Chart determines track rankings via top audio and video music services and download sales from the major music retailers. Sacaj wins 2022 festival song competition
Sacaj, the 29-year-old from Sanside, St Mary became the fifth female winner in this year's Jamaica festival song competition's 56-year history. Her entry Nuh Weh Nice Like Yard took the top honours and the $3 million prize money to be shared with producer Newell Morgan. Magic Flute placed second with his entry I am a proud Jamaican, while veteran entertainer Nitty Kutchie finished third with Defend Jamaica. Kutchie was also awarded the Best Performer prize. Dancehall artiste Stacious, who won last year's competition, was among the guest performers.
Merciless Found Dead
Dancehall entertainer Merciless was found dead in a hotel room near Lyndhurst Road in St. Andrew today Tuesday July 19, 2022. Initial reports suggest that the DJ died from an heart attack. Merciless, whose given name is Leonard Bartley was born on 1 July 1971 in the Turner district of Chapelton, Clarendon, Jamaica.
Wife Of Reggae Artist Tinga Stewart Dies
The wife of reggae singer Tinga Stewart died Thursday morning at the University Hospital of the West Indies from complications stemming from a clot in her lungs. Andrea Stewart, who is asthmatic, began to experience breathing problems last week and was hospitalised. Tinga Stewart, a two-time Festival Song Contest winner, turned 71 last year on July 3. The veteran singer has battled depression in the past three years and shown little interest in music. He is not taking the death of his wife of 10 years well.
SOJA win the 2022 Grammy For Best Reggae Album
American reggae band SOJA (Soldiers of Jah Army) has won the 2022 Grammy for Best Reggae Album with “Beauty in the Silence”. The other Best Reggae Album Grammy award nominees were Spice for her album “10”, Sean Paul for his album “Live N Livin”, Jesse David Royal for his album “Royal”, Etana for her album “Pamoja” and Gramps Morgan for his album “Positive Vibration”.
Bunny Diamond is dead
Just days after the shocking murder of Mighty Diamonds lead singer Donald 'Tabby Diamond' Shaw, the reggae group has been plunged into mourning yet again with the passing of bandmate Fitzroy 'Bunny Diamond' Simpson. Simpson died Friday morning after a long battle with diabetes. He was 71 years Old.

On March 29, at about 9:45 p.m. in Kingston, Jamaica, the lead singer of the reggae music trio Mighty Diamonds, Donald “Tabby Diamond” Shaw, 67, was shot dead near his home on McKinsey Crescent, Olympic Gardens. Also shot dead was another man, Owen Beckford, and three others were shot and injured in the attack, which took place at a popular community social spot. Formed in 1969 in the Trenchtown area of Kingston, the group consisted of Shaw, and harmony vocalists Fitzroy "Bunny" Simpson and Lloyd "Judge" Ferguson. They had become friends at school in the mid-1960s, and were originally called The Limelight, adopting 'Mighty Diamonds' after Shaw's mother started referring to them as "the diamonds."
Jah Cure gets sentenced to six years in prison
Jah Cure has been sentenced to six years in prison for attempted manslaughter. Siccature "Jah Cure" Alcock was sentenced in a Dutch court today after the Court of Amsterdam rejected his claim of self-defence. Jah Cure was detained in The Netherlands for his involvement in a stabbing incident, where promoter Nicardo ‘Papa’ Blake was injured in October 2021 in Amsterdam. The prosecutor stated that Jah Cure’s actions prior to the stabbing showed it was premeditated, and he intended to cause wounding and harm to Blake. although the claim of self-defence was rejected, the court found Jah Cure, 43, not guilty of attempted murder. The alleged stabbing was started by an argument over money owed to the artiste by the promoter, totaling $5000...
Counterfeit Liquor Bust In Jamaica
A joint police/military team arrested eight men during a targeted operation on Old Harbour Road in St. Catherine on Monday, February 7. Reports are that between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., a team of police and military personnel entered a premises where they uncovered an illegal bottling operation with counterfeit liquor. The team discovered hundreds of bottles, labels of popular local liquor brands, a bottling machine and several cases of raw material. Eight men who were found at the premises were taken into custody. The team also seized approximately JMD $280,000 in cash. As the investigations continue, citizens are being warned to take precautions and examine the labels of packages when making purchases.
Robbie Shakespeare From Sly and Robbie’s has died
Robert Warren Dale Shakespeare was a Jamaican bass guitarist and record producer, best known as the one half of the reggae riddim section and production duo Sly and Robbie, with drummer Sly Dunbar has died. Robbie recently undergone kidney surgery at a hospital in Florida. He died at the age of 68. Sly and Robbie has two Grammy wins and 11 nominations among other music achievements.

Bounty Killer plans on expanding his career achievements by getting into acting as he prepares to star in a crime drama film produced by 9Z, a company led by Nigel Dixon. Usain Bolt Hits Top Reggae Music Chart With Debut Album
Country Yutes debuted in Billboard's top ten reggae album charts with co-signs from Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and Audiomack. The album has since soared to the top of the Amazon Music charts since its September 3 release. Usain Bolt stated his true ambition is to become the Dancehall equivalent of Dj Khaled. Bolt co-produced three dancehall mixtapes in 2019: Olympe Rose Riddim, Immortal Riddim, and Clockwork Riddim.
Legendary Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry is dead
Renowned music pioneer, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry has died. He died on Sunday morning 08/29/21 at the Noel Holmes Hospital in western Jamaica. He had been battling illness. Perry was 85 years old. Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music with his early adoption of remixing and studio effects to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing reggae tracks. He has worked with and produced for a wide variety of artistes, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, the Congos, Max Romeo, the Beastie Boys and the Orb. He has produced more than 1 thousand recordings during his over 60-year career, including some of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ most famous early recordings.
