Joel Chin Was Laid To Rest Iin NYC
The Memorial Service to celebrate the life of slain VP Records executive Joel Chin was held on Saturday, September 10th at 11:30AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church 92-96 220th Street Queens Village. Members of the music fraternity in Winston 'Merritone' Blake, radio host Pat McKay, Bobby Carke & Louie Grant (Irie Jam Radio), Bob Fredricks joined family and friends at the function. Jah Cure Drop From 2011 MOBO Awards
Jah Cure has been axed from this year's Music of Black Origin ( MOBO ) awards nominations. The 2011 MOBO Awards will be held on October 5 , 2011 at the SECC Glasgow in the UK. Reggae singer Jah Cure whose real name is Siccature Alcock was also nominated but was later drop because the organizers were informed about his rape conviction. The nominees for dancehall and Reggae music Best Act are Alborosie Damian Marley & Nas Khago and Mavado.
Mavado's Manager Julian Wanted By The Police
Investigators from the police's Anti-Corruption Branch are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Julian Jones Griffiths, the manager of dancehall artiste David "Mavado" Brooks. The police say Mr. Griffiths is needed in a case currently before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court in St. James. In the release Tuesday morning, September 13, the Constabulary Communication Network (CNN) said Griffiths is accused of perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in an incident which occurred on July 22 on the Belmont Main Road in St. James. Jay Z Accused Of Bullying Renters
Jay-Z is entangled in a dispute with tennants of a Philidelphia apartment building he owns, who are claiming they are being forced out of their apartment building. Current and previous residents of the 603 North American Street that are partly owned by Jay-Z say that his legal team has been bullying them to give up and vacate the property. Two years ago Jay bought the 24-unit condo under SCC North American Realty, LLC, which he has part ownership in. Former tenant Liza Tedeschi dished to FoxNews.com about the unsettling situation. “The whole thing has been so unsettling. I’ve been in tears over this.”
Sizzla Recovering From Bike Accident
Miguel Sizzla Collins remains hospitalized in the Corporate Area hospital after he was involved in a motorcycle accident in St Ann, Jamaica on Wednesday August 24, 2011. Sizzla is recovering well after suffering serious injuries including a broken arms, broken ribs, a fractured collar bone and ruptured liver which caused extensive internal bleeding. The artiste's family has deliberately not named the hospital as they seek a level of privacy in order for Sizzla to fully recover. The family however, continues to thank Sizzla fans at home and abroad for their continued support for him.
New Trial Date For Elephant Man
ONeil Elephant Man Bryan is scheduled to return Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on November 30 for the start of his trial on a charge of stealing electricity. Elephant Man trail was expected to begin on Tuesday, however a new trial date was set after Elephant Man's attorney Linda Wright, inform the court that she thought the case was only scheduled for mention. The entertainer was arrested at his home on Hillcrest Avenue in Kingston on June 2, after it was allegedly discovered that he was using stolen electricity.
5.8 Earthquake Shakes The East Coast
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake centered northwest of Richmond, Va., shook much of Washington, D.C., and was felt as far north as Rhode Island and New York City. The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was 3.7 miles deep. Shaking was felt at the White House and all over the East Coast, as far south as Chapel Hill, N.C. Parts of the Pentagon, White House and Capitol were evacuated. The quake was in Mineral, Va., in Louisa County.
VP Record's Joel Chin Murdered
VP Records founders Pat and Vincent Chin is in mourning, following the murder of their grandson Joel Chin. The 35-year-old producer, who also headed up VP’s A&R department, was reportedly shot and killed as he drove up into his apartment in Stony Hill, St Andrew, Jamaica Tuesday August 16. According to reports, Chin died instantly in his driveway. VP Records released a statement, saying:

(AP) A Philadelphia man was gunned down hours after a judge upheld felony charges against his ex-girlfriend, who was accused of offering $1,000 on Facebook for someone to kill him. Jamaican Sprinter Tests Positive For Banned Drugs
Jamaica's sprinter Steve Mullings, the world's third ranked 100 meters this year and one of the favorites for the World Championships in Daegu later this month, has allegedly tested positive for banned performance-enhancing drugs and is now facing being kicked out of the sport for life. Mullings tested positve for an unspecified banned masking agent. If the positive test is confirmed, Mullings faces being banned from the sport for life as it would be his second offense.

The Jamaica National Flag was first raised on Independence Day, August 6, 1962. It signifies the birth of our nation. The Flag brings to mind memories of past achievements and gives inspiration towards further success. It is flown on many triumphant occasions, showing the pride that Jamaicans have in their country and in the flag itself. Once a Spanish possession known as Santiago, in 1655 it became an English, and later a British, colony, known as Jamaica. It achieved full independence in 1962. It remains a Commonwealth realm with Queen Elizabeth II as head of state.
Jamaica Police Arrested 3 Suspects In Women's Beheadings
(AP)Jamaican police have arrested three suspects in connection with the grisly slayings of a mother and daughter whose be headings during a home invasion last month renewed a sense of fear and outrage among crime-weary Jamaicans. Police commanders told reporters at a Tuesday news conference that three suspects have been arrested and investigators are seeking six more. They said criminal charges were expected to be filed soon. T-pain Autotune Lawsuit
T-Pain is suing Antares, the company that creates the Auto-Tune effect. Teddy P — who’s now partnering with Izotope to create something called the “T-Pain effect” says Antares is still using his image and likeness to promote its products. He also claims that Antares has unlawfully licensed his name and image to third parties. He’s demanding the company cease and desist and pay him $1 million for his troubles.
Mavado Charged With Assault
David "Mavado" Brooks was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and malicious destruction of property on Thursday. On Friday January 22 about 7 p.m., Mavado assaulted a man and damaged his Toyota Camry motor vehicle along the Belmont main road in St James. It is alleged that the 51-year-old complainant stopped along the main road to allow a line of traffic to pass when Mavado and members of his entourage attacked him and his son. The victim filed report against Mavado and a member of his entourage at the Anchovy Police Station in St James after sustaining injuries to his back, leg and forehead. Mavado will appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday, August 8 2011.
Businessman Charged with Shooting Murder Of Khajeel Mais
Businessman Patrick Powell was charged with murder on Wednesday July 20, 2011, resulting from the shooting death of 17-year-old student Khajeel Mais. The killing in the St Andrew community of Havendale on July 1 has infuriated Jamaicans, who made repeated calls for the police to name the suspect, who fled the island briefly after the incident. Powell, a 50-year-old resident of the posh St Andrew community of Belgrade Loop, Kingston 19, has also been charged with shooting with intent, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and failure to produce firearm for inspection. Amy Winehouse was found dead by her bodyguard in her London apartment yesterday at 4 p.m. London time of an apparent drug overdose. Winehouse was only 27. Winehouse is a Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter whose passion was jazz music. Her Back to Black album, released in the U.S. in 2007, thrust her to worldwide fame. She canceled her European tour last month after she was booed on stage for being late and appearing to be under the influence.
Rapper Foxy Brown Beats Violation Charges
Rapper Foxy Brown was able to remain free after charges of violating an order of protection were dropped. On July 21, 2010, Brown was arrested after she had an altercation with her neighbor, Arlene Raymond. According to sources, Brown was allegedly playing her music outside of her home too loud for Raymond. When Raymond complained about the music, Brown supposedly came up to Raymond’s residence, shouted expletives and exposed her rear end. This is not the first time Brown and Raymond had an altercation. In 2007, Brown was charged and convicted of assaulting Raymond using a cell phone. Brown’s trial was set to start on July 12, 2011. South Korea Buys Share In Jamaican Electricity Company
Underlining South Korea’s global energy interests, Seoul based Korea East-West Power Company Limited has negotiated a deal with the Jamaica government, which has given the green light to the decision by Marubeni Corporation to transfer 50 percent of its shares in the Jamaica Public Service Company to EWP. The company is wholly owned by the Government of South Korea, and ranks as the largest thermal power company in the Republic of Korea, owning and operating in excess of 9,000 megawatts of power generation facilities in the country.
