Biography...

Shari is originally from Portland, Jamaica. The singer and songwriter recognised her passion for music at the tender age of eight. Being exposed to different genres of music at an early age has had a lasting impact on the artiste's unique style. This impact comes from listening along to her mother playing souls, pop, country and western tapes, to developing a personal taste for R&B, hip hop, and reggae. Inspired by artistes such as Tanya Stephens, Beres Hammond and Beyonce, just to name a few, Shari has developed a high level of versatility. Shari focuses on singing and writing a fusion of music: reggae and R&B, with a commercial twist.

This singing sensation started off years ago as a soprano singer in the community choir, where she had her first taste of stage performance. She performed at the city's festival and other private functions. Shari is now a member of a reggae band called Hardway Family and has been a member for some years now. The band performs in London, at city and town festivals, pubs and clubs, and also private events.

Shari is a recording solo artiste, as well as a backing singer. She collaborates and writes songs for other band members. Shari's lyrics are inspired by a combination of personal experiences and the experiences of others. Using her passion and talents, she aims to tell a story through her songs.

In March 2011, Shari had her first single release, Kitty Cat, produced by Hardway Records and Freeze Production. The track features fellow band member, producer and deejay, Willy P.

Shari has recently completed the video shoot for her upcoming single on Willy P's What's Going On Riddim, which is set to be released later this year. The Hardway Records artiste is scheduled to work with some Jamaican producers on future productions.

Q&A Session…

What is your style of music? I do reggae, but I like to call it alternative reggae, because my style is a fusion of almost everything. In some of my songs you can hear a bit of R&B, pop, and rock, but the fundamental theme throughout is reggae.

Where are you from? I was born and raised in Jamaica, but I now live in England. I am based in Peterborough, south east of England.

Do you write your own songs? Yes, I do write my own songs and I also write for other singers.

Who are your musical influences? My musical influences are many, but I’ll name a few: Tanya Stephens, Beres Hammond, Mary J Blige, Beyonce, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Toni Braxton.

Who are you currently working with? I am currently working with producer/singer/deejay/engineer Willy P. He is also a fellow band member. I've been working with my band, Hardway Family, and I'm always busy rehearsing, writing and recording new songs for future release. I also work with Killahrich Cephus of Tenza Music and have done some work with producer Junior Singer and Stingray Records in London.

Where can people find you? People can find me on the Hardway Family website. This is the band that I am currently a member of, and have been for three years now. If you click on “Singers” in the navigation bar you will see Shari and all the other vocalists.
