in Dancehall is undeniable—a masterful wordsmith, captivating
entertainment icon, and insightful businessman known just as
much for his lyrical genius as he is for his much publicized scandals.
Nearly everything he does is a guaranteed success – and a
fullfledged controversy. On February 26th, his recording label
Adidjahiem Records, in partnership with notable Reggae label
Tads Records, will release Pon Di Gaza 2.0, a re-release of last
year’s digital Pon Di Gaza album, with a bonus disc of the deejay’s
latest hit singles, include the current #1 hit “Life We Living.” Pon
Di Gaza 2.0 is Vybz Kartel’s first physical album in nearly four years.

Like Pon Di Gaza, the release of Pon Di Gaza 2.0 comes in the
midst of a storm of Kartel controversy—rumors and allegations
of everything from trouble inside his Portmore Empire camp to
tangles with law enforcement--which is all par for the course
for the unconquerable deejay. The deejay scored eight #1
singles in 2009, including the internationally acclaimed single
“Romping Shop” which hit the Billboard Top 100, and “Dollar Sign,”
and “Virginity” which are currently in rotation on urban music
stations throughout the Caribbean and North America. Since
the start of 2010, he has been heralded as Deejay of the Year,
Recording Artist of the Year, and Song Writer/Lyricist of the
Year by the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards,
and Favorite Artist of the Year and Best Male Artist of the Year,
while his song “Love Dem” was voted Best Chart Topping Song
of the Year at the Youth View Awards in Jamaica.

Pon Di Gaza 2.0 contains chart-topping singles “Last Man Standing,”
and “Million by Morning,” as well as club bangers “Bicycle,” “Go-Go
Club,” “Nah Let Go,” and “Marie” and includes an exclusive freestyle
and special mixes. “Unlike the previous album, Pon Di Gaza 2.0 contains
all raw (unedited) tracks.

Pon Di Gaza 2.0, Adidjaheim/Tads Records, will be in stores and
on iTunes (www.apple.com/itunes) on Friday, February 26th. The
album’s production credits include Donovan “Don Corleone” Bennett,
Ainsley “NotNice” Morris, Lenburgh “Leng” McDonald, Stephen McGregor,
Jordan McClure, Tarik “Russian” Johnston, ZJ Chrome, and DJ Neil.

Okay I created an account just to reply to this and because it was still relevant seen as its going to be released this Friday.

I recently got Pon Di Gaza from iTunes and I actually liked it a lot, I was never into this Gaza Vs Gully rubbish as I liked both Kartel and Mavado as well as the rest of each groups other artists. I thought Pon Di Gaza was actually better than The Teachers Back (in my opinion) mainly down to the production of the beats and the toning down of expletives. I never really like the beats that much of The Teachers Back and found them a bit "samey" to be honest. But they were much better in Pon Di Gaza but also of many other Dancehall artists as it seems 2009/2010 has a much different style to that of past.

Also to say that Kartel supposedly finished the album in 4 days was also amazing to produce such quality in a small space of time and yes the also rumored 8 sold copies was disappointing but that was most likely down to poor marketing as here in the UK the dancehall and reggae DJ's on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra (Chris Goldfinger, Robbo Ranx & Young Lion) had no idea he had an album out even though they were playing a lot of new material by him they thought they album was going to get a release date soon but the album was already out! (and yes he gets a lot of rotation here in the UK on the black music station 1Xtra mainly on the dancehall and reggae shows but they also play him and mavado and many others at prime times and during the day).

What I was mostly disappointed with about the album the most was the album artwork. Two words, oh dear I mean if this was all done in 4 days the album cover really shows it as it was terrible. When I saw it in iTunes I thought this couldn't be the cover as it looked like it was done in 2 minutes and something any randomer could've done. Honestly I could of done a better version for them lol as it looks so bad in my iTunes and on my iPod compared to other artists album covers that I would rather have no artwork!

But Pon Di Gaza 2.0 does look promising (along with an improved album cover) and looks like I'll have to get it to see how Kartel has improved on what I thought was an excellent album but with practically double the amount of songs its probably going to be like getting a whole new album (in addition to Pon Di Gaza lol). But we'll just have to wait until Friday!
